Your First Visit

Your First Visit

Initial Consultation, Examination, Report of Findings and 1st Treatment

The purpose of your first visit is to discuss your problem, for the chiropractor to find the underlying cause of your problem and determine whether chiropractic treatment would help.

The chiropractor will take a full case history and after a detailed history has been taken, they will follow this up with a thorough examination.

The chiropractor will look at the following :

$

Vital Signs

$

Posture

$

Range of Motion

$

Orthopaedic Tests

$

Neurological Tests

$

Soft Tissue examination

$

Functional screening

You can ask as many questions as you want to. This will help you to get a better understanding of your problem. Unless otherwise contraindicated, you will normally receive treatment at your first visit.

Sometimes further investigations may be indicated and if this is required, then you will be referred appropriately and without delay.

We will decide this based on your history and examination findings. If we feel that you will not benefit from treatment, we will discuss this with you. We can give you guidance on what other options are available.

During your examination, it is important for us to be able to see what’s going on with your body. For this reason, we may ask you to undress (gowns are provided). Please wear loose or stretchy, comfortable clothes or bring a pair of shorts with you.

Report of Findings

After your examination you will be given a report of the findings. The Chiropractor will discuss with you a detailed explanation of what they feel the problem is, what the best course of action available to you is and they will also explain the plan of care they recommend for you.

The first treatment usually occurs during your first appointment and will involve a combination of specific chiropractic adjustment and mobilisation techniques to the spine, joints and muscles, in order to help restore normal function, relax muscles, remove strain from ligaments, improve the efficiency of the nervous system and relieve pain.

The length of time it will take to get you feeling better depends upon :

$

You as an individual

$

The condition and the severity and duration of the symptoms you have had

$

How well you respond to treatment

$

Whether or not you follow the advice given

$

Lifestyle factors such as stress and poor diet may also affect how well you respond

At your first visit we will be able to give you an idea of how many treatments we think you will need and how long we think this will take. But obviously everybody is different, so this will be a rough guide only. We will aim to get you the best that your body will allow in as short a time as possible. However, in order to do this, it is important for you to follow any advice that you receive.

Depending on what is causing your pain and the duration of time you have had it for, we may also recommend ongoing supportive care. The aim of this is to try and make re-occurrence less likely. Throughout your treatment plan, advice, information, and self-help tips will be provided to you. This is so that you can help yourself to try and reduce the likelihood of your pain reoccurring.
